“Les beaux esprits se rencontrent”—François-Marie de Voltaire, Age of Enlightenment French philosopher

When Songs of Joy Are Sung, Deep and Full-Throated

When songs of joy are sung, deep and full-throated,
Gay lines of cheer blissfully oft' may spring;
but songs sung happily hide a secret coded
within a bard's concealed, inward being.

What hidden germ can masquerade as his art?
When the mind envisions poetry, profound
phrases of love pouring out from the heart's
impassioned lips may multiply unbound!

A riddle, hid in cipher, deep inside
a conundrum: but perhaps there is a key?
Encrypted, and then planted far and wide,
in rhymes apparent is his mind's bel esprit.

Beautiful spirits ever meet—and find
in each other the gift of a great mind.

I could spend a whole lot of time reading and rereading this. Well, I have. Very enigmatic!
