BABA MARTA TRANSLATED BY ANN WOOD

Grandma Marta was in a hurry
Grandma Marta was in a hurry,
Martenichki tied:
Lawns, greens,
White and red:
First of the forest -
Let the leaves fall.
And let them all come:
The storks, the birds,
The first singer
Koser handsome.
Then the gardens -
Let the gergins bloom
And Latin girls scarlet,
And patterned peonies.
Apples to ripen,
Pears to turn yellow.
And the children
Wrist strap
Martenichki wonderful
With red fringes,
Be early risers
Let them grow up.
