Buddha Visits "His" Shrine

The Buddha would stand in front of one of these shrines,
And laugh. He'd shake his head. All he had wanted to do
Was help people learn how to end their suffering. He was
The means. He wasn't the end, but, here in Japan, his
Lessons appear to have been regarded as much too hard,
And "Buddhists" made Buddha a god they could worship.
No meditation! No effort at all! Pray to the Buddha to
Receive salvation. The man himself, if he wasn't enlightened,
Might scold them for what they've done.

Absolutely agree. In any case, religious people are security risks. All religious people! Buddha never taught a "religion" at all. Rather the opposite, if by religion you mean devotion to any kind of being. Buddhism is made a religion everywhere. The Dalai lama spoke up against that, but I still get irritated by his funny clothes. I once went to a ten day Vippasana course here in Sweden. I was ensured no religion was in the works - but still we were asked to chant some mysterious chants that obviously wore a trace of religion. I also asked the teacher (from Canada) about the killing tools hanging everywhere, to kill the ticks that were ample in the area. Even though we were told to use those tools, all he could answer was "You should not kill!" Hypocrite!

Or maybe he is filled with unconditional love for all creation? I hope that question doesn't sound as though I am denigrating your words because that's not my intention: I fully understand your viewpoint. It seems to me that all religions have this tendency to 'decorate' and 'magnify' elements seen in their Gods and.or Gurus.
For human beings simplicity can't be an answer. Overthinking and elaboration are a necessity!
