When I was a young man I had a 'crush' on my girlfriends Mother this poem part of a trilogy came from that time. I intend no profanity. It examines in as considerate a way that I can, a soft seduction from long ago. Previously unpublished

The Charms Of A Woman by M.A.Meddings

I have these strange,
Awkward feelings.
They are almost,
Unbelievably,
Just!
For!
Your mother!!

She has, that serene beauty
Any woman needs
To enchant a man
An inner verve
A quiet sophisticate
That balances between
Poised calm and wild appeal

The defining of her
As I observe
Are the little things she does
Those quirky
Quite innocent gestures
She performs
With an almost
Little girl innocence

How?
Well take for instance
That quite tantalising motion
When she assured of my notice
Tracks her finger at her throat
Then continues on down
Along the neckline of her gown
Lord she knows what that is all about

No! Of course I'm not in, love with her!
I'm in love with you!
It is just that, she has your pretty freckles
Only one or two
Mostly on her nose
But some, enchantingly
Just below her eyes

And, my dear there's a tiny cluster
Placed seductively
At the start
To the cleavage of her breasts
Soft and gentle
Flecks of speckled delight
That destroy me

But at night,
The vivid hazel green of her eyes
Flecked with tiny spots of grey
So that as she turns to see
They flicker in the light
Then haunt my dreams
And I become a man.

For a woman in her prime
The glorious silken texture
Of her skin,
Could drive me to Insanity
As does the way
She upward tilts her chin
So that her throat is stretched alluringly

Then, have you noticed
How inconsiderate
Her penchant to lightly pout her lips
Then to part them a little
So that her sweet breathing
Comes soft and short
To leave me breathless and weak.

And, my dear I swear to god
If you sit me once more
Across from her at dinner
Then I am lost to you
Her lovely hands, irresistible
Affectedly moving in on me
And my heart is taken

But no I 'm not in love with her
I'm in love with you
It is just that
I find it slightly irresistible
The way she wears her clothes
Loose bodice dresses
Perfect juxtapose

To the open necked revealing,
Of just enough,
Of her glorious breasts
A challenge to my mind
And does your father know
How beautiful she is
But lonely

Of course I'm not in love with her
I'm in love with you
Beside I'm only twenty one
And she just Forty two

This is such a beautiful poem written by a young man, telling of the beauty of love that is so strong so open to life....

I fall for every line and the end so sad in one part but then it changes and comes to hope again...

"And does your father know
How beautiful she is
But lonely

Of course I'm not in love with her
I'm in love with you
Beside I'm only twenty one
And she just Forty two"

I am very moved by this text and to me it also tells of the beauty of men, their sensetivity... a thing that is not so much shown in our modern times... it is sad...

Oh dear Michael
i understand this poem all too well,
one of my daughter's friends seemed to feel the same for me too...he followed me around like a puppy dog and though it was quite cute at first ....it did start to unnerve me when he wanted to give me a kiss! lol
great work from the ever endearing romantic of the bay!

this is delightful... elegant... "sophisticated" as is she, especially for the point of view it's coming from. indeed, love is painted in these words... awesome, with more than a dash of humor :))) ...i love it.

S M I L E !!! oh this is a delight! the humor, the sensuality of the older woman, the young man's continuous repeating that he loves his girlfriend, when all the while, he is being seduced, albiet, perhaps, innocently, or maybe not, by the mother. What a dilemma for such a young man full of hormones! I believe that I have heard it said that a man is at his peak at around 19 and a woman around 40. Perfect match, I'd say. lol :) kathy

A beautifully constructed poem!

Of course I'm not in love with her... The repetition is as if you are saying it to yourself as much as you are saying it to someone else, making it real and slightly humorous in a way... Love is present any and everywhere though... I loved the poem and it's narrative-ish tendencies.
