I thought the conservationists and animal lovers amongst you might like to know that if brought to the boat nowadays all Marlin are tagged and released so that the scientists can track and learn about the behaviour of these elusive and magnificent creatures.


Outrigger snap
A strike at the lure
And he has missed
Blue steel power
Follows the boat
Then turns in the wake

Outrigger snap
This time it is true
then down he goes
Ten,Twenty and two
Then Thirty fathoms
Blue steel power

The scream of the reel
Lower the rod tip
Recover the line
All that you can
Before
He takes it again

Into the chair
Harnessed and safe
The brute has the edge
At forty or so
Down on the gears
So well engineered

Doused with the bucket
Keep the reel cool
Before the thing jambs
Screaming a song
God !
When will he stop

Look on Joe
The line has gone slack
What will we do
Wind like hell,
He,s coming on up
Just look at him jump

Wow! What a sight
three hundred kgs at least
biggest this year
My only fear
We have
Lost him!!

Slack goes the line
Now is the time
To reflect
What did we do wrong
And wow what a song
That reel made

Maybe next time
We will all stand in line

wow, the excitement you evoke in these words about the Blue Marlin. I have seen one, but alas, it was on a wall. I did hear of the struggles, and the power, and the wild times that finally brought this poor fish to his end. :( Your description is very vivid and enthralling!
