Middle of Nowhere

"Do not follow where the path may lead...Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail"- Ben Franklin

There's asphalt far as the eye can see
Water flows in pools on horizons
Far away yet close.

I'm thinking of diving into bushes
Trying desperately to drive the vehicle forwards
Stretch the petrol gauge a little further

Bring the barren land surrounding
Into focus from a blinding blur
But the sun is setting fast

Panels swing from the sides in the breeze
Paint flecks flying, floating
Rubber peels from the wheels

Trucks in front of me
Cargo movers, semi-trailers
All lose their loads in the dead centre

Slam brakes, swerve violently
Try to grip the road
But my steering wheel's coming unstuck

With nowhere left to go
