The definition of Pornography for all the people who dont really know

By pornography I mean any image that makes a fetish of the human body, reduces the body to a motionless object simply to be sexually consumed. I mean works that simply figure the sexual act and have no punctum: personal point of meaning and reference.

OR

Pornography is the graphic sexually explicit subordination of women, whether in pictures or in words, that also includes one or more of the following: (i) Women are presented dehumanized as sexual objects, things, or commodities; or (ii) women are presented as sexual objects who enjoy pain or mutilation; or (iii) women are presented as sexual objects who experience sexual pleasure in being raped; or (iv) women are presented as sexual objects tied up or cut up or mutilated or bruised or physically hurt; or (v) women are presented in postures of sexual submission, servility, or display; or (vi) womens body parts - including but not limited to vaginas, breasts, and buttocks- are exhibited ,such that women are reduced to those parts; or (vii) women are presented by whores by nature; or (viii) women are presented being penetrated by objects or animals; or (ix) women are presented in scenarios of degradation, injury, torture, shown as filthy or inferior, bleeding, bruised, or hurt in a context that ,makes these conditions sexual.

There, plain and simple.

I write erotic texts on occasions and try to use the less graphic language to describe the love act
so i have a vested interes in as much that i do not consider my texts pornographic. its just my view. I think one persons erotica is anothers porn
but I agree with Tony and have expressed the view previously in forum
'that i question the validity of allowing junior member under 16 access to erotic or what some see as pornographic texts.
I would like you Aaron to post this thuoght provoking and important text as a forum discussion

but well done for the post here rgds mike

ON A MORAL NOTE:
Can this be a topic discussed on Poetbay?
It is a very important topic.
BUT...is it a safe topic?
NOT SO LONG AGO five noted members of Poetbay were happily discussing with a 12 year old, even though children under 13 are not supposed to be members. Not one of them seemed to note that this was unacceptable. And the child identified herself as 12 years old.
Should young people have access to some of the sexual stuff that appears on Poetbay--even at 13--and the profanities? Perhaps, there are more serious ethical issues to think about, ones relating to pornography and acces and the corrupt material that is available to minors...including swearing, sexual talk, seduction, erotic chitchat between adults and minors, daily access to love talk that reflects the West's obsession with sex and identity.

I have a question.
I thought that you were 16, But you now say 17. You also state that you have been addicted to pornography for 6 years. 17-6=11. How, Aaron, did you manage to have access to pornography at 10-11? From where? What exactly is behind you posting this debate? What is on your mind here?

Most pornography is about debasing women? Is it? In every heterosexual porno shot there is a man! The widest spreading pornography is gay pornography. In every gay porno shot there are two men--even more! (Unless, it is a masturbation piece, in which case the viewer serves as the second participent). It has been argued that the latest form of racism is the sexual exploitation of black men and the pornography that surrounds them is one of the worst forms.

What is a righteous person?
A moral person?
In that case, I hope there are some righteous people.
Or do you mean self-righteous?
In which case, does that mean religiously bigoted?

I'm not sure what this debate is about.

It seems to confuse sex, the erotic and pornography. Nobody has made much of a valuable point so far in response to Aaron's opening statement.

Perhaps, the debate should swing to the pornography that passes for poetry on Poetbay--the poems that are degrading to women--those that are sexually vulgar--but oh dear, that might upset some people--it's best not to have a brain...that could be confused with being having a moral idea!

vi) Women are reduced to bodies (as are black men) and not seen as possessing minds when they are represented. This method is usually seen in relation to how sexual organs are depicted, but it might be pursued by using other images. Seems fairly clear.

Hmh. There is a great amount of righteous people here at the bay. I can't help feeling a tad entertained by some of the statements/proclamations they enjoy making.

I think you've done a great service here and I am very appreciative. I do agree that men are used in pornography also but the greater percentage of usage is women. It doesn't really matter what percentage of what gender is used, what matters is pornography is what you say it is. It is degrading, filthy, hurtful and evil.

I believe that the writer is referring to MacKinnon. This passage does go on to state that the term man might be substituted for woman, so this quotation is not gender specific. Nothing has been missed.
