I just listened to this song and felt it spoke for me. John Mellencamp lives in Southern Indiana just about 60 miles northwest of me.

The Americans

Artist/Song name- John Mellencamp- The Americans lyrics
From the album: Freedom's road

I like my heroes
To be honest and strong
I wear t-shirts
And blue jeans
I try to understand
All the cultures of this world
I'm an American from the Midwest

When I speak I have a southern drawl
I mind my manners most of the time
When you come down here
Stop and stay hello
I'm an American from south
of the Mason Dixon line

I'm an American, I'm an American
I respect you and your point of view
I'm an American, I'm an American
And I wish you good luck with whatever you do

I start my day
And I'm ready to work
I'm responsible
And I like to get things done
If you ever need some help
Come and look my way
'Cause I try to be here for everyone

I'm an American, I'm an American
I respect you and your point of view
I'm an American, I'm an American
And I wish you good luck with whatever you do

They call me the land of opportunity
With our agriculture
And beautiful movie stars
We can turn our dreams
Into a way of life
So be happy and be who you are

I'm an American, I'm an American
I respect you and your point of view
I'm an American, I'm an American
And I wish you good luck with whatever you do

Well! John you surprise me! And it is a very pleasant surprise! Thanks sis for sharing this. I'd love to see Lee Greenwoods' I'm Proud To Be An American lyrics on this site too. As a matter of fact, I'd love to hear from writers around the world share songs from their countries showing their feelings and pride and traditions. I think it would be very inlightening and it would give us all another thing in common; love of our homelands.

being part of a culture is special .... sometimes enjoyable sometimes not ... America being such a geographically wast country seems to me to have a very tight structure all the same ...
and then differences when it comes to the differnt states ... mind you this is my image of America, I have never been there but I have close family living in Connecticut ... and then the movies and documentaries I have seen ... so my picture is of course a very undefined one ...

it was nice to read your text ... it did tell of a love for your country ...

best wishes
katherine
