*Braces: the word in England
equivalent to suspenders

Lost Identity

If I lost my red suspenders
Would I lose identity?
Would anyone remember
That who I am is me?

Could my cowboy hat suffice
To keep me recognizable?
Would my persona be on ice?
A persona not as sizable

I'd fall out of the good graces
Of my English friend, The Brit
If I lost my reddened braces*,
He'd be sure I was mis-fit

In lost and found-ing places
I'd seek them out and plea
"Please find my red suspenders
So identified with me"
