Lain: Chapter 2.3

The morning awoke with me. The clouds chirped gracefully at the birds that were scornfully ducking its praise, as though it didn’t appreciate the space they took comfort in. The birds followed a larger, grey leader who flew with such serenity; such enthusiasm with every flap of its wing. The early morning painted a picture in the frames of the window. Everything seemed to stop, as I woke up again to realise I had wondered back into a shallow sleep. A thought struck when my legs began to cramp – I hadn’t left my house for a whole day. In many cases attending work and having a daily wonder didn’t appeal to people, whilst I enjoyed walking amongst the squirrels. I lived in a modern house with little to settle into. The roomy house was on the outskirts of London with a few trees in the way of a main road. Jess and I accompanied each others needs when boredom faced us only inches away (we didn’t have a TV or stereo system, only our laptops).

I decided to disturb my resting arms and get out of bed. I dressed in the same cream jumper, chose to slip on my pristine white jeans, and pointed my toes in the sole of my brown shoes. I made sure I locked the door before I traipsed to my BMW, took a right, strode a left, and carried on through the wood. Squirrels were eating, as they did every morning. I spotted a red squirrel under a withering, young oak tree. I was amazed at how rarity elapsed with a dying beauty. Before I could kneel and advance to the squirrel with a monkey nut, it clung to a bark and retreated. It didn’t hide in fear of me, as it spotted the nut and had sniffed curiously, but ran in despite of the darkness that fell and layered beneath the trees behind me. I engaged just as nature did, and swiftly turned, looking at nothing. I confronted three trees ahead of me, swallowed of its enemy.  Leaves that were scattering with the morning winds now stood still as if observing, also I felt like I was the only motioning, breathing, and falling human.

I wasn’t, evident to what was ahead of me.
