BEING ALONE

So you think you've found the one?
The very next minute he's gone!
You can't say for sure,
if he really was there at all.

Drown your soul in cheap thrills.
Strangers, licker and memories lost.
It's the easiest way to forget,
the things you do not regret.

Throw yourself out, parachute fall.
But the parachute wasn't there at all.
It's not an exit, it's a dark dead-end.
No matter how much you pretend.

Being alone just isn't your thing.
You tried it but felt nothing.
You can't say for sure,
if you are really there at all.

Then you meet the one!
And he will never be gone.
You can say for sure,
since he's so nice, mature.

But the very next minute he's gone.
And you're left all alone.
You can't say for sure,
what life really is for.

Rob Graber
I like the pervasive feeling of uncertainty here; and lines 7-8 are wonderfully paradoxical--as mixed-up and contradictory as real people muddling through real life!
