I guess this is just our society as a stereotype in a nutshell.

Our Society

Our society will shush a battered wife,
an abused child,
or any voice that chooses to stand up
And say "this is wrong."
Because that cop, that dad,
that husband is just too nice.
Our society will turn their cheeks to
report rape or any endangered being,
But our traffic slows to watch the crash.
Our society puts yellow ribbons everywhere
As they purchase gas-guzzling vehicles.
Our society will tell the young to be good,
while they turn their backs to their own rules.
Our society will tell themselves, "that will never happen to me,"
because bad things don't happen in small towns.
Our society lives to buy diet pills,
only to watch their wallets lose weight.
Our society wants world peace,
but their bumper stickers say "God Bless America"

Wow! I love this wonderful piece of wisdom.
Things you've mentioned here are some absolute facts about so many "Our society"(societies) from around the world, my friend. :)
Plus this poem shows I'm reading the words of a very talented poet. I love some unique colloqations here:

gas-guzzling vehicles, wallets lose weight & ... .

Welcome to the Bay!

Love

You tell it well and strongly, all we can do to change society is change ourselves, work from within and the peace will spread outwards. Keep writing. Tai
