everyone has a feeling of not being there...not being someone. This is the feeling I had when I wrote this work.

Alone On The Stage

She stands on the stage alone
A single light bulb shines on her face
Lined and wrinkled by years of smiles and tears
It shows a life full of emotions
She's cried
She's laughed
She has been royalty
She has been a pauper
She's even died a time or two
Once or twice she felt love in lines written by others
Read by those who didn't truly care
Millions of words
Thousands of people feeling what she felt
Theaters sold out
People wanting to see her
Now she stands on the stage
Looking at empty seats
She is a nobody
Her name is no longer known
She is alone on the stage
Looking into the empty room
Through empty eyes
Thinking about her now empty life
She lives off her memories
Memories of what was
Memories of what could have been
For the first time she cries
and there is no one to see it.

Kathy Lockhart
beautifully told story Rob. I felt her loneliness. I can recognize myself in her at certain times in my life. Very well written. : )

Zoya Zaidi
A poignant story!
Yes, it is sometimes pethatic, the way some artists die the death of oblivion; for the glory lasts a few years, and then fades... Lucky are those artists who die while still in limelight... Otherwise they live a miserable life later on, wraught sometimes with drugs and poverty!
A tought provoking and emotion evoking write, dear Rob!
Thanks for sharuing this wonderful work!
((Hugs))
Love, Zoya

A sad read indeed, but I am sure she would prefer it if others didn't see those tears, I know I would. being lost in our selves, is a habit we artists are prone to. Thanks for sharing, Tai
