Giorgione
The Holy Family,

The reason for it all...

A Babe To A King

Little Babe at mother's breast
Did you know you'd face the cruelest test?
As your soft fingers reached for your momma's face,
Did you know you'd save the human race?

Little Lamb in your daddy's hands
Did you know you'd walk the wilderness sands?
While the angels praised your Holy name,
Did you know you'd carry the world's shame?

Precious One, so tender and sweet,
Did you know you'd wash your betrayers' feet?
And he would come and kiss your face,
Bringing the soldiers to your prayful place
So they would know to arrest you there
And take you back to the Pharisees' lair?

Gentle Baby, as the Magi followed the star,
Did you know that you'd be what you are--
The Savior of the world by God's design
And did you know your Word is Divine?
Oh little baby, so simply born,
Did you know you'd wear a crown of thorns?

Dear Baby Jesus, born on that day,
Did you know you would take our sins away?
While hanging on a cruel cross,
Did you know you'd pay the ultimate cost?

While laying there so peacefully mild,
Did you know you were the Holy Christ Child?
Innocent at birth and innocent at death,
No sin was yours from first to last breath.

And now we come to celebrate your birth
By giving gifts and remembering your worth.
For two thousand years have come and gone,
And we your followers still carry on.

Not one of us is without our sin
But you took them on yourself and then
Died for us and in our own place.
You gave us your love and bestowed your Grace.

And in so doing, you set us free
When you arose from the grave triumphantly.
Now there is hope for life after death.
There is resurrection after our last breath.

And you will meet us in the air
For we will join the saints up there
To praise you for eternity
A babe to a King you grew to be.

A wonderful poem Kathy and so apt for me to read this today as I've been at a carol service today - for me Christmas should be about spreading the message of love, which is what Christ spread to us.

Wonderful piece, and a fitting tribute to the time of year. As you did for a piece of mine, I shall use this same word for yours. I loved the dichotomy of stanzas and thought it was very well written. Very good work, as always, dear Kathy.
