star gazing

so tonight i saw stars
dotting the borders of your waistline
my hands roaming the moonlit sky of your flesh
trying to catch the constellations
before they could flee into the night surrounding us
but i couldn't quite hold on
so i took what i could in stolen kisses at the base of your belly
trailing eager lips along the curves of your hips
and your panted whimper only spurned my travels
to the stars dotting the horizon of your pinnacle form
so i continued tempting the night
goading her to release her daughter for just one more moment
of celestial bodies clashing at the thighs in slow, undulating waves
like the rolling in of the tides
smashing against the beach in rythmic tune to the meeting of our most essential parts
and i want to watch the crests peak and fall again sometime
silhouetted against this cold downtown night
and the perfect curve of your stars taunting me to reach for the sky
and pull it as closely against my bare stomach as physics allows
but this is no longer the night for star gazing
and so i sit smoking cigarettes
hoping the smoke curling up past my eyes can cloud my visions of constellations aching to be met with waiting lips
hoping that in snubbing out this last habit of the evening i can fall asleep
not wondering when next i get to see stars
