Bereft

Gazing at the images
that flicker through my mind
drifting back to another place
standing facing time
how fragile you are my tender heart
bereft of what you seek
holding court all alone
defenceless, prosecuted by deceit
and as you weigh the sands of time
thoughts turn to words not spoken
of fractured memories bound by truth
in the shadow of all that was broken.
