Sleeper
A beam spanning the track which is used to support the rails. Originally wooden but concrete sleepers are generally used now.

Sleeping car
A railway coach in which beds are provided for passengers to sleep in.

Somnambulance

I have watched
the night trains pass
from platforms 1 to 24
and waited
waited
for the sleeper train

all that came
were the discomforts
of the commuter trains
designed for masses
mindlessly shoved
in cattle wagon fashion
here and there
and back again

for every humming down
the gleaming track
hope rose
a little
but the sleeper car
with nicely puffed up cushion
and the curtsy square of chocolate

is off on some track
on the other side of dawn
and all I ever get
is yawn after yawn

It's safe to walk
and skip and hop
from sleeper to sleeper
when tired out
from waiting
waiting
for the sleeper train

In time oblivion
will hit me
like a train

I liked this a lot - I have never been on a sleeper train, always wanted to - its that clikity clack sound that lulls
