A Short Piece on Friendship

We are friends
and I love that

but I thought I wanted more
but in truth, that was selfish

it would never work
both would just get hurt

and so I will myself
and force it down

then realize that
it was nothing much

a brief crush,
a momentary attraction

you are wonderful
but if it was that easy

it couldn't have been
that much of a more

that could have been
between us to

though our resilience
and strong bonds of friendship

are what see me through
this small letdown

and I wouldn't
have it any other way.
