These verses follow no rules of scheme, rhyme or meter because I didn't want to be restricted in telling a story of love in its highest form. I dedicate this to my nephew David, my sister Kathy, my Parents who now reside in Heaven and my precious husband

ONE Plus Two Makes One

Two hearts became one
because they could no longer
beat alone

Two lives died
when a knot was tied
that bound them together

They were born again
beneath the skin
of eternal devotion
As vast as the ocean

Two in one person
One person with two souls
vulnerable to holes
from life's knives

That would pierce the skin
with an aim to drain
devotion and love

But love upon love grows
as time on them bestows
knowing

Knowing flaws
and what makes them weak
gives them pause

And so they seek
The Love Creator
to eliminate
the Soul Invader

Strength is needed
and is given
His Blood is pleaded
and evil driven, away

Taking joy from being.
Sustaining life with love.
Each breath has meaning
poured out from above

Challenges are met
Battles are won
Deep roots are set
Love grows on

Together they stand.
Two in one,
hand in hand

Time turns to become a foe.
One must stay and one must go.
But can a heart be split
without killing the whole of it?

And the skin that grew
over the one who had been two,
the cover of devotion, vast as the ocean,
will that shield be peeled?

Oh the cruel truth,
a jagged heart, ripped apart
as from a lion's tooth,

Bleeds upon the lonely one.
Body raw, shield now gone
half a heart, half a beat
Two-in-one now incomplete.

Tears and fears strike in pain
upon the remnant heart in vain,
though the suffering pours like rain
Partner Death will remain.

Beyond the cloud of years to come
after the time of living numb
a strange aliveness will awake
to see a new sunrise break

And inside a crippled life
where tomorrows were not planned
half a heart now beats whole
sewn to God's by His own hand

Kathy Lockhart
this says so beautifully, even in the pain of it all, the love that binds, that mends, that remains is from The Creator of love, God.
As said in Forest Gump, sometimes there's not enough words. And, this is how it is trying to explain the loss of your half that made you whole.
I have a vision of my beloved's literally torn heart and I know it represents the torn heart that I feel emotionally. I have been thinking on this for almost a year now and the grief goes on and so does the love.

love,
kathy
