Why Do We Write?

In reading of the disappointments of poets....
Writers perturbed by lack of peer comment
Remind me of myself, in earlier days
Invited to the bay by chance, I was
Thinking my poems were like babies
Entering the world for the first time, naive
Frightened and vunerable to harshness
Oh the surprise I found, as time went by
Realising in parts, we are all the same
Mere commentators of love and life
Expressing ourselves in our own unique way....

;-)

Ditto what they said below.

Nicely done.

Fantastic acrostic. Some attempts at this form come across as forced, but in this one, the form is secondary to the meaning and tone of the whole. All the initial characters in this one seem natural and do not interfere with the flow and sense of the poem. Nicely done.

I think the same question could be asked of painters, musicians, sculptors, etc. All of us want our poems to be read, since writing is a form of communication, if not community. But if we do it for the sole purpose of getting praise, or if we write purely for performance sake, we're likely to be disappointed. Art rarely speaks to everyone all the time. And the really cool thing about it, to me, is that poems that did not speak to me, say, 10 years ago, now speak volumes. Keep writing for yourself, but thanks for sharing some of them with us now and then.

For me, the act of writing releases a thought from the confines of my mind, giving me peace in the process. So yes, it's for me mostly... and for my muse :-)))
