satan

Satan: Adversary

his only crime was to
challenge the power of god
to give voice to doubt
all of us have had

Lucifer, the most beautiful
fallen because of a question
what if I ruled the world?
i think i can make it work better

maybe he could
maybe he couldn't
didn't stop him from trying
and god gave him hell

would have really hurt
to let him try it out
see if he could?

if he did good, so much the better
if not, then it's nothing something
omnipotent can't undo

but instead an enemy was created
a bitter and unhappy being
wrought from disappointment
and jealous longing

it seems that perfect beings
should not act as humans
they should exist in cooperation
and understanding

but then again, they were created
by the mind of human
and in every human, there is

the need for dark and light
ying and yang, eternal balance
the perfect is the enemy of the good

I like this very much. I really like the "and god gave him hell" phrase, with its double meaning. And I agree that perfection is a dangerous concept in that "perfect" means different things to different people.
