My boyfriend has a physical disability
and something he said re: when he
was single made me think of this free verse.

Jealousy Of A Tattered Book Ending Happy

Oh, I lament being the tattered book
That no-one wishes to read
My kind story touching no hearts.

Falling off the four-foot bookcase didn't work,
A hard boot just carelessly kicked me
Across the slippery floor.

Alas! 'Tis always the non-tattered books
That beautiful girls wanna pick up and read

Oh, how I envy their perfect, shiny covers,
The unstainedness of their pages.

So, one last time, off the 'case I hurl,
Bracing for the inevitable smash onto the floor.

But surprising, a table blocked the floor,
Placed by you to catch me mid-fall.

So thank you for the time your gentle hands took
And for loving caressing my tattered book cover
As you engrossed yourself in my kind story.
