He Loves her (or so he says :-) )

He loves her ~ because
she said
'I won't take half,
I'm just here to laugh'
and it makes his heart
melt like the tv dinners
she destroys in the oven,
her own unique recipe,
he hasn't a clue
and she denies
while lying in bed
tearing pictures from magazines,
a Bardot pout,
long legs
and a colour chart
as she artlessly asks
if red heads have more fun,
because she's sure she once was,
in a previous life,
a Celtic queen
defeating Roman elite.
He loves her ~ because
when he's cranky,
she forgot to lock the door
dropped her glass on the floor
and covered it with a table
Aunt Mabel gave him.
She buys flowers,
that need resuscitating
and they haven't a vase,
she fills up the lavatory,
thats what he loves,
or just, so he says.

He loves his quirky woman not in spite of but because of her quirks: a classic theme enjoyably executed in this text! I tend to associate this with the Woody Allen movie "Annie Hall"; Diane Keaton really nails the quirky-girl role.

This makes me think of a film called "Bringing up Baby," with Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant!

Though you seem to write mostly in vers libre, I always enjoy your creative use of scattered rhymes. "Half" and "laugh" are unusual and innovative rhymes, I think. I don't think I would have ever thought of rhyming those, even though it's perfect. Amusing and well-composed verses about the complexity of love.
