Message in a bottle

I found the bottle on a beach
somewhere near Port Said
Within a note in childish hand
and this is what it said.

I miss my dad he went away
and I don't know where
And every night I kneel to pray
and for him say a prayer.

And as I prayed to god above
A thought came to my mind
To write and tell him of my love
For someone good to find

My name is Roisin, I am seven,
and live in Innishfree
And if you know where my daddy is
please send him home to me.

Tell him that I miss him so
and tell him that I'm good
I say my prayers and help my mom
just like he said I should.

But sometimes in my bed at night
I hear my mommy cry
And I never heard her cry before
my daddy said goodbye.

Tell him sadie had two pups
and both are black and white
But she still sits by the kitchen door
Waiting for him day and night.

Tell him that the goat got out
and ate up all the flowers
But mommy and me planted more
and it took us hours and hours.

And if you ever see my dad
Please would you to him say
Me and mom and sadie miss him
every single day.

I read the letter several times
through my now misted eyes
For I knew well the author
and her once so happy cries.

I gazed across the stormy sea
and it's white turbulent foam
Put the letter in my pocket
and then made my way back home.
Brendan.

This was a real lump-in-the- throat one for me, Brendan! Fully believable and showing how any member of a family suddenly taken away can cause so much pain, especially to children. Great stuff!
