It's one of those suprising days

It's one of those surprising days, the ones that take you by chance.
The light behind the drapes is bright and it seems later than you think
And the illuminated dial of the alarm clock, shows the hour is early
But you feel refreshed, last nights sleep, perhaps did cure, reassure
And the painted birds you had designed do sing and dance, even
Caterwauling cats seem more musical as they chant to be fed.

It's one of those surprising days, after coldness seared through bones,
A breeze plays garden tricks and the colours peep out mischievously
And for the first time in ages you can sit outside and not feel the burn,
Stomach churning anxiety. Yes it's a kick ass day where Monday
Is just a word that beckons and I reckon Sunday isn't so bad.
The camellias are looking chagrined; it's about time they kept
Their promise, they've been tantalising for a while now.
Hey guys, let Spring commence, no more monkey business!

It's one of those surprising days, even hanging out the washing
Seems more exciting, less mundane and for once my fingers
Didn't freeze to the line and I didn't think I was a mad bitch
Who opens windows in the dead of winter and extol how
Fresh air is the panacea of all the wrongs that inhabit our lives.

I'm sitting here with a laptop, a rather trashy novel and a glass
Of rather mediocre rosé which I will top up with water
As I want a clear head to look to the future and marvel that
Only two days ago, it was bitter and now, I'm sitting in a
Cotton shirt, open toe shoes, my sunglasses on as the sun
Hits the laptop and I have trouble seeing what I'm typing.

In the oven is a casserole that will braze and laze the day away.
I haven't really cooked proper food for a while, relied on
Easy in the oven, five minutes to prepare, shove it on a plate cuisine.
Today I cook a mean feast; it will be ready in a few hours or more.
Perhaps by then, it won't be as good as I think it will be now
But I am loving the anticipation, that only a day like this,
A surprising day like this can yield in expectation.

This definitely has the feel good factor in every line, I enjoyed the story that unfolded and the optimism. I'm almost there, here, waiting for the daffs to unfurl.

Some philosopher (god, there are so many of them!) said that we should treat each day as if it were the last. Sometimes, though, the weather does not cooperate with that scheme. I'm seeing the first brave crocuses thrusting up from the thawing earth and the rooks outside are so certain that spring has come at last that they are collecting straw and grass for their nests up on the roof.

Your poem captures the anticipation and relief that spring always brings, especially those dazzling days that catch us unawares. On days like those, it's hard not to believe that good things are still to come.
