Caught in a whirlwind, but having too much fun to see the drop... that's love isn't it?

Carried Away

Swept up like leaves I was
Rushed away at the speed of light
All the alarm bells were ringing
But the wrong somehow felt so right

I loved the attention
And you craved affection
I keep going back to that first night

A brand new start you said
We thought we knew where we stood
Carried away by the possibilities
Never stopped to think if we should

Now you've retreated
My heart now defeated
But I'd do it all again if I could...

A sentimental peice, indeed. Thanks for sharing.

One wonders...is love supposed to be cautious...careful...well thought out? No...I think not. Love...no matter how short...is meant to be that whirlwind that you have described.

I love the poem, and as an added treat the form, the stanza form and rhymes, and those magical 14 lines. I sometimes think there is nothing that cannot be expressed in 14 lines (though sometimes the lines may need to be very long!).

And, yes, being carried away is almost always worth the ride. Life is a roller coaster. Sort of.
