I Should..............

I should like to walk those shores again,
the unfettered me, set free,
I should like to fly again
leaving daisy prints on sand
and wear a ragged ribbon
to stay a stray of wind blown hair
that afterwards in cool clean shower
watch salt evaporate cleaning
streaks, ice and heat shrieking
in the freedom of the simple things.

I want to feel my toes biting into
the exfoliant of sea froth and sand
feel the splash, as waves crash
and the trickle, tickle of forbidden
sins fall between my sun baked shoulders
and the cool silk of a shawl,
sitting on a plaid rug, watching idle
charcoal burn and the smell of
drift wood spattering as children
clatter wet, sore and sound of feet,
no mean feat on a shore of promise.

I should like to hold the hand, feel
sinew and strength pull me into the wind
and the shock of the first splash
tumbling me down, delicious cool
I want to swim again, my skin on fire
fight the currents, seek where the
rocks have burnt a sauna and the
trickle of blood oozing from a shallow cut
that makes me know I'm flesh and blood,
my skin licked with promise, open, reaching,
being me and seeing for the first time,
last time, the only time.
I should love to walk
watch life in shallow spores
as rushing water pours away
enticing me, to go and yet to stay,
in yesterday, tomorrow and forever.

I adore this, so full of nostagia and the strength of feeling gives the piece real depth. I feel I am in that poem, it reminds me of my childhood and teen years spent on the island. The draw of the sea never leaves you.
