Happy Christmas?

Happy Christmas?

"Hello Mary" I said "I'm somewhere between Great Dunmow and Oxen End on some God forsaken lane and I've broken down, the Sat Nav is useless and the battery's going on my mobile so can you help- Hello hello" "Damn".
Here it is Christmas Eve and me with a load of presents for the kids and no transport lets hope Mary got that, nothing I can do now except sit here in the gathering gloom and hope that maybe someone comes past who will be able to help.

I pass the time remembering all the previous yule times, even going back to the war years when there was little about and children had to be happy with something their parents had cobbled together not so the Nintendo and Nano IPods that are available these days

Two hours have past and the snow is thickening and thoughts of settling in my favourite arm chair with a glass of brandy are fast receding I am despondent at the thought of not getting the presents to the kids in time for them to unwrap them in the morning, but suddenly there reflecting on the snow across the fields are the headlights of a car and its not long before low and behold, Mary must have may contact with local law' a policeman is on his talking broach and now saying that they can get a tow truck out and get my vehicle loaded and away, with a lift to the nearest station promised, although he did add "The reindeer will just have to take their chance in the nearby field until we can talk to the farmer and Mr Christmas I think you may be a bit conspicuous in that red cloak on the train"

I'm smiling and liking this, enjoyed the mixture of the ancient and modern.
