For a friend, deciding not to divorce

Still . . .

"But in contentment I still feel
The need of some imperishable bliss."
Wallace Stevens, "Sunday Morning"

I sense her change, both in what she says
And doesn't say, growing more comfortable
With her life, more wedded to what she has,
To the unspoken but necessary promises
Of all that it yet could become for her.

Perhaps not what she may have dreamed,
But much more than she might ever have.
And it's not resignation, but a realization
That she is loved and desired, if not perfectly.

Still, sometimes those quiet, yearning nights
Longing for a moment of imperishable bliss.

I can never fault your poetry. Honestly, it is pure brilliance. I am speechless. Teach me your inspirations and secrets!

I can't even be a critic here - every sentance is absolute honesty and emotion. This poem makes me think - just as it should. Keep sharing.

Your friend,
John.

Lawrence Beck The PoetBay support member heart!
You caught it perfectly, that tension between settling into the perfectly acceptable, and the wish that something truly wonderful would appear to take its place.
