Three Tanka on a Theme of Light and Shadow

This empty fountain
Flowing only with shadows
Where the water was
Two mermaids poised in mid-air
Bathe in ripples of bronze light

The yellow streetlamps
One by one flickering on
In deep snowy dusk
Each light opening shadows
In the windows of closed shops

When one lives alone
One hears Death in the silence
And from the shadows
The solemn dark mourners come
And cover all the mirrors

I struggle to find unique words of encouragement and praise - but yet I just come up with how brilliant your imagery is. Really, you make my mind fill up with pictures and let memories flood. I can't thankyou enough, I am honoured to read your poetry. Keep writing, countryfog.

Regards,
John.
