Unanswered Heartbeat
Reading my words to and about himwhen so so so in love
I can see how easy it was for me to stay and believe
he was so close
so almost
that I could easily believe
cannot be faulted to have believed
to the extent I did
that it was him
But oh God! How I longed for it to be real
for my love to be answered
to the extent that I needed it to be
He gave me a taste of it
enough to make me believe we could somehow
find a way
But that taste
was an expression that stayed on his face for only a moment in time
a deep look that flashed across his eyes for just long enough
to make me linger
Yes, he loves me
Yes, I love him
but loving each other is not enough
Somehow
he could not sense it
and therefore could not return it
not in the depth
that I crave
This is why
for the last time
