Summer's delights close to home

My Backyard Paradise

The sun stretches across my lawn,

stenciling the fresh cut grass.

My beagle carpeting the garden

with his lazy whiskered sleep;

I read a book with squinted eyes,

and drink ice tea in measured sips;

Life slows  to a leisured crawl,

in my backyard paradise.

Ah the simple pleasures, I just have to substitute the beagle for my cat and I'm there. I really enjoyed the first two lines, especially "stencilling."

Paradise is made of simple pleasures . . . how often we complicate our lives by not appreciating them.
