of course we do

I Do Not Think

I do not think
I could rule a country.
Or you or anyone.

But I am learning
By myself to live
With you and others.

I am tired of the charges
We have to pay
To live on our own planet.

I am one of the lucky ones.
Who can sleep tomorrow.

No matter how they tell me
I control my life they dither
Into corners to make deals
About themselves becoming richer.

I do think they are not about
Anything I can witness honestly.
They rule us out of greed.

I do think I remember
Simmers and how easily
People can go off the boil.

Hubble, Bubble more ******g trouble. Do we have an empire of the mind?....Our home....our fortress? Perhaps only our own fears dare to encroach upon our sense of wellbeing.

I began several times to comment, and realized that what on one reading seemed rather simply understood becomes with each subsequent reading more deeply complex, layered and textured with insights that make me look beyond my own . . . what poetry at its best does.
