Whispers of a Shadow

I whispered to her at night
as she lay there asleep
as though she were a part of me
I could feel her breathe - dream

And I wept as she answered me
in the sweetest, softest, gentlest, strongest of voices
as she surrounded me with her arms, her heart
and held on to me as I fell apart in shame

A woman I do not understand, nor hardly see
yet she is all that exists, the only truth I know

I watch her in amazement as she touches the hearts of those I love
wipes away their tears and brings forth their beauty, their smiles from the depths of themselves

She took my hand and my depths shook
She kissed away my tears and my heart sang

My words fell upon the dust before me in inadequacy
and my inmost being sang in praise and amazed gratefulness

as I realised that I am the will, the one who chooses

and she, my potential

I admire the ability of a writer to put himself/herself into different perspectives, points of view, to take the "I" out of the writing. To change genders, here, is good, it reflects on all your poems, gives them a roundness—rounding out the themes you so often use. I particularly like the give and take this gives the reader, knowing your work, which always gets to the heart of the matter... what I mean to say is that this, like all your poems, isn't afraid to touch what needs to be touched.
