sometimes you need penance

Take Me

I said sex was the enemy.
You said it was more a priest
To whom we confess
Our wants and our sorrows.
Mother Mary, take me....

I said forgive me,
For I have spoken evil.
My deliberate evil, for which
There is no exoneration.
My dearest friend, take me....

I said I would leave,
Never to return to this place,
With its grey sky-wall and mountains.
I packed a book bag in the dark.
Oh, world, take me. Take me....

Peter Humphreys The PoetBay support member heart!
Sometimes we need to do penance, sometimes just forgiveness, sometimes just the space to grow and learn. I really liked this poem. Peter
