winter correspondent

nothing new on the cold front

the snow plows throwing up trenches

guarded by tangled snakes' nests

of overlooked garden hoses

refugees with hot cocoa

long johns and ear muffs

hoping for a cheap flight

elsewhere

winter is reclaiming the world

it is paratrooping in one flake

at a time

into muffled beauty

Written with the objectivity of a reporter and the syntax of a poet. Nice. I like the contrasting images.

I love winter and thoroughly enjoyed your take on the event and season. I've got a couple of smakes nests myself and smiled when I read of yours.
