Let Me Rest

My breath is weak and my heart is slow
But there is a song that's forever young
My lips will slowly shape the words
And sing you what needs to be sung

I'm trapped in a vortex of streaming time
My soul is chained and beaten sore
But waves will carry my silent prayer
To be heard on the other shore

Let me walk by your side in the valley
Let me drink from your fountain of life
Let me see the light come shining
Let me rest from my sorrow and strife

When age grows old and hinder my path
When life holds on with the end in view
I bid my sorrows a final farewell
And you, my friend, to follow me through

Let me sail by your side on the ocean
Let me cross to that far-off shore
Let me see your light come shining
Let me rest in your arms - evermore
