I can be Silent

The rain falls heavily tonight,
I wonder if you will call,
I wonder if I will answer,
I can be silent as you know.

I went to the market today,
I was my invisible self,
I bought ruby pamplemouse,
an aubergine, one lime.

I like the colours,
they remind of other times,
times when the rain
didn't slash upon the pane,
times when I was
a city cat
prowling
growling at the moon.

I will paint in stained glass
and looking back
I will choose the moon
and etch it on my heart.

I wonder if you will call tonight,
I wonder if I will answer
I can be silent.

Ah Elle, your words make me dream :) I like the anticipation and the uncertainty described in this situation... in some ways I find I can relate certain circumstances to ones of mine. As always I like all of the lines, but the second-to-last stanza particularly strikes for me. Excellent read.

I like this poem. It implies a certain self imposed solitude and an ambiguity whether to keep it that way.
It feels like she wants him to call but the decision whether to pick up to be hers. She will pick it up. :)
Beautifully said.

Introspective, wonderful.
It is sad, or, it makes me sad,
that the protagonist longs for, but wont have the dream made real ...
as said, it is a sad poem, but a wonderful one.
Not silent, just a quiet, calm, great desire

I like the self-uncertainty here; it creates wonderful suspense. With the cat and moon imagery, it reads like something of a Halloweeen poem.
