Holding my Breath

You told me to hold my breath
just watch the world spin
and taken in
I believed in every word.

Like a bird, a kestrel high
I soared and in a wingspan
I hovered looking down
this world was overawed

and I, unlaced and chased
a fickle moon that
flicked, brushing stars
making skies spic and span

I was in your arms,
your lips on mine
Oh, I felt so fine
in this heart amidst
the wonders of the universe.

I held my breath
counted the beats
heard the thunder
let the rain cascade
in the greatest escapade.

I am only me and all of me
your breath and mine
your arms were mine,
the flowers grew, the grass shone
little rivers of shining dew
they sparkled like buckles
on an imaginary shoe.

I believed in every word
every gesture,
yet I never solved
and the question,
can you guess?

It never was unravelled.

It flows like a song and is filled with delights and imagery. A beautiful poem.

Simply wonderful, Elle. Have you any pilot training? You seem so completely aware of the awe, the essence, of flight. I'm reminded of the rapture I felt in reading "High Flight"

'they sparkled like buckles on an imaginary shoe'

Immaculate tonality, the music of this composition evokes an inner universe with the perfected model of it's depictions.
