My husband had a check up and found he could make me a widow at any moment

A Widow's Pain?

The doctor shows the pictures
a map to a heart attack.
That he's alive is shocking,
a miracle in fact.

What shall we do with this
confronted with such news?
It must compute first
just what we have to lose.

Wow, it can happen
to us, just like others
We've known, fathers
uncle and brothers.

It happened to them.
But we just never bought,
the idea it could happen
to us was never thought.

But he is at the hospital,
I am home to rest.
Then we will see it through,
We will accept the test.

His heart will be opened,
literally that's what they do
I said I hope I'm in there.
He said it's full of you.

I looked at him and wondered
as I have for all these years,
How could I be so blessed?
And fought back the tears.

We smiled and understood,
though we do not show our fear
That we will one day part
and that time could be near.

But our faith and hope is strong.
God has us in His hands.
Yet if we're touched by fear,
we know He understands.

No matter what may come,
Or how I will react.
I know God's love will be
An ever present fact.

So I say my prayers
that my husband will remain
With me for many years
and spare a widow's pain.

A poem to remind us how fragile our lives are. Another reason to seize the day.

We are all vulnerable at any time, aren't we? Yet when it happens to one of us, it feels impossible. One is never ready for these kinds of news. I hope all will be well.
