Simple thoughts drawn from reading this day's poems

Village Bylaws

We are artisans here; exposing, out of need and care, our very selves to those whom we know will understand.

We carefully painfully craft, with exceptional skill, words and phrases, with or without the picket fence of punctuation, to birth images that would suffer credibility, intensity, depth and perspective for being visual.

All this simply to place our most intimate, delicate, joyful and yes fearsome thoughts before the embracing audience of our peers. Not to be critiqued but to be loved for our exposure.

The world provides our work and lives harsh critique enough.

This village, instead and fundamentally, is built on love, concern and trust not found in any bricks and mortar having a geographic place and time.

I agree. This is very pleasant, forgiving place, a home.

Very well expressed. This place is a haven for the expression of battered souls. I know I am not a good poet. But an artist does what he can with what he has. Thank you for this piece.

What has always stood out for me of the "villagers" here is not just the quality of our craft but the generosity of our comments. There is diversity, as there should and needs to be, but always acceptance and inclusion too. No cliques, no supersized egos, just a community of shared values. In my experience, this is a rare thing, and we all have helped make it so.

I relate to your saying that images alone can often "suffer credibility" for being only visual . . . with a picture we for the most part see only what is there, but with words we bring our own meanings and connotations to them, our own sensibility and experiences inform them. Many of the old Chinese painters thought so too, often including a poem in their paintings, adding that critical dimension that goes beyond just the surface of things.
