Today is my birthday... as in years gone by, a cause for reflection and stocktaking

Inventory

A lady rain gently soaks
while I sit thinking of
A life that spans a time
From before television
To the accepted fact
Of holograms

Burns and Allen
With Rogers Majestic
Cap guns pocket knives
Red Rider BB guns and
Marbles and Chestnuts
The sparks that lit the
Crackling of our young
Serendipitous lives

The elements of a young life
Lived in joyful fantasy without
The crutch of video to stunt
Outlandish dreams round
Woodland cooking fires
The smoke of Autumn leaves
Smudging neighbourhoods
On crisp afternoons the crack
Snap of snow so cold it hurt

On this day of lady rain
I toast to seventy years
Of remembrance and reflect
On all forgotten now remembered
Joys of boyhood and of adventures
Yet to come

Really nice, Joe, really nice; at once reflective and forward-looking. Happy birthday, young man.

Bonne fęte ! :) This is beautifully written... sent my thoughts to no regrets (really) and a content sort of feeling of looking over the years. I'm sorry, don't think that I know all of the references you make here, but that is not to say that I don't appreciate the feeling that comes through... to me, it feels so good, I hope that I'm right :)

I will toast with you on this lovely day of a lady rain. Happy Birthday! If our generation has any hope of survival it will be because of the joy and courage of yours. You represent the best of what we could be. Have a great day!

Happy birthday and a wonderful poem to celebrate it with. 70 is not old these days. By the time you reach 80 we will all be living to 120. If we can stand it.

A very Happy Birthday! A lovely reflective look on your life, love that line "a lady rain" The older I get the more I think and I'm not too far behind you. May you have many more adventures yet to come.

I remember, once upon a time, thinking seventy sounded quite old. Now it's seems quite reasonable, a nice round number, no where near old. Merely . . . ripe.

A beautiful poem of remembrance, for yourself, for us as well. I"m not far behind.

Happy Birthday, Joe. And many more.

Happy Birthday Joe, a lovely gentle ode to the power of memory as we traverse through this life, the joys and woes - our personal tapestry that gives colour to our lives. I think, although I am younger than you, that once one has reached a certain stage in our lives, seen our children grow, watched loved ones leave our world that we become far more reflective - I know I do

Happy birthday Joe, and many more. You've touched on so many memories we share, if separately, as I think most of us our age have. We were such innocents then, not old enough to have any thoughts of the ways the times, and we, would change, some for the better and some not. I've come in my own years to truly appreciate all the meanings of the word "endure," and we have.
