Vanishing Act

Everpresent and available
Until I’m nonexistent
Available yet unaware
I am within your reach

Touch my face and
Erase it from the stares
I walk away and dwell in the shadows
of a person's conscience,
I vanish.

I'm still here

but the person chooses to forget
so things can be visible and lit

The newfound breeze within the shade
of overheated minds
will cool my core and steal my pigment
At least until the day I reappear

I really enjoyed reading this! Very psychological, if I understand it properly? I suppose it could work on more than just the one level though, as a couple of the other commenters already observed.

Congratulations on getting Editor's Choice!!!

This feels like a relationship where one was a vibrant part, but over time feels forgotten, until they leave or become rediscovered.

John Ashleigh
Gripping and convincing language. I love the juxtaposition of vanishing and then reappearing. This is both clever, and cogent. Thanks for sharing this accomplished piece.

Regards,
John.

Your poetry seems to be changing. I can't pinpoint exactly how, but just sense it. This is a very profound poem that, as One Trick Pony noted, can be read on many levels. Nice work.

there must be countless ways to read this, but it is a story one way or another. not so much mystery, as magic.

here. gone. hold the illusion "until the day I reappear"
