s-a-t-u-r-d-a-y night!

this girl knows how to party

going round and round

~

i've never been

to the great cities of the world

nor to the exotic places

exotic to me

i want to walk on the beach at ipanema

i'd like to see if paris

is what literature says it is

i do think san francisco is a great city

great in a funked-up way

famous for its hills and haight

for its queers and beats

i'd like to walk the welsh hills

i'd like to eat at an outdoor cafe in ho chi minh city

i want to see the flora and fauna of costa rica

and stare at the pacific from concepción

one day turns into the next

and here i am

trudging up and down these hills with the tourists

dreaming of too many things

 ~

i'm running circuits

 ~

pick a direction and go

choose a line and follow it

 ~

i come from a long line of worker bees

it hasn't been in our nature to be adventurous

i don't know how to do it

where to begin

 ~

it's raining

i won't run today

i'm torn between rio and the north of england

i'm chilly

and leaning toward the sun

i'm lonely

and leaning toward rose

i can almost feel the sun on my shoulders

i can almost feel her in my arms

~

i have pandora

on oldies

i'm hearing the circle game

and that

is exactly the game i'm playing

I too would love to do the things you mention. How do you get worker bee DNA out of your system? By dreaming and writing nice poetry like this :)

All at BirdBrains enjoyed this rotation. The variety of places referenced in thy first verse is pleasing. The routine mentioned in the second verse strikes a familiar note with our FT, as she recalls waitressing at Sudeley one summer and dreaming of trips abroad. Fortunately she was well enough at that time to enjoy a study tour to Italy and Greece just months later. Woo-hoo! Now, she must travel in her mind.
We don't know who rose is, but if she is connected to a particular place, perhaps you might like to travel there. Ms Bird plays excerpts from Grainger's Train Music, to riotous applause :>)

What a great poem. Your poems have so much life in them!
Yes, make that decision to travel. One visit to a new place is worth a whole library of reading. I like how you put your words together

Having been to some of those places and many many others I can say it's true that the hardest part of the journey is taking the first step. Close your eyes, throw a dart at a map, and just go. You'll never regret it.

Here's how I see it....accentuate the positive....at least you're still running....which should train you well for sightseeing...especially Welsh MOUNTAINS. Hills...as if!

This is a nice poem, but it's sad. If you've got any spare cash or a relatively clean credit card, just go to one of those places. Every place I've ever gone has been fascinating, worth visiting, even Detroit. You easily can step back into the circle when you return.
