I Guess We'll Never Know

Sittin' under an old shade tree
Listenin' to the wind.
She sings an old familiar song.
She's a good and faithful friend.
My mind started to wander
To a time when I was young.
When all I did was play all day
And my nights were filled with fun.

Turn back the clock.
Let's go back in time
Back to those younger days
When we were in our prime.
We never seemed to tire
We were always on the go.
Just where all that time went,
I guess we'll never know.

Memories of simpler times
Down by the riverside
Skinny dippin' with our friends
Or just sittin', watchin' the tide.
Back before life got busy
With jobs and other stuff
Workin' too many hours
And never gettin' enough.

Turn back the clock.
Let's go back in time
Back to those younger days
When we were in our prime.
We never seemed to tire
We were always on the go.
Just where all that time went,
I guess we'll never know.

Life goes on, so they say
We have to go with the flow.
Why it flows by so damned fast
I guess we'll never know.

Turn back the clock.
Let's go back in time
Back to those younger days
When we were in our prime.
We never seemed to tire
We were always on the go.
Just where all that time went,
I guess we'll never know.

This is a very beautiful poem. For most of us those were some really good days when we were growing up, thanks! Dorsey

I enjoyed reading this too. It moves along like a song. Maybe this time of year makes us think more of the past. Nice!

This is a great meander through the dusty halls of yesteryear! I enjoyed the read as much as you obviously enjoyed the write.

Best regards,
