Silver; or, The Burnt Tree of Coo

One autumnal night, there came crime to the park
   to furnish a furious fire
on innocent tree, tearing all through her bark
   with flame fingers flickering fire;
the lake sighed deep grief and a saddening breeze blew,
   but hark! the tree singing a rhyme:
Woo-hoo..., woo-hoo..., the Burnt Tree of Coo
   survives through the torturous time!

This autumnal day, I pause close by the tree,
   and contemplate twenty-five years
since arthritis anger first waged war on me,
   the anguish, the burning, the tears;
but birds chirp above me in skies silver blue,
   and hark! the tree singing a rhyme:
Woo-hoo..., woo-hoo..., the Burnt Tree of Coo
   survives through the torturous time!

This is wonderful. I am sorry that I have not been keeping up with your work lately. The feeling shown in this piece and the understanding of how the tree suffered comes across so well. Brilliant.

i absolutely love The Burnt Tree of Coo!! and this is a charming, beautiful tribute to it. brilliant alliteration ("flame fingers flickering fire"), vivid descriptive language ("the lake sighed deep grief"), and the overall message of perseverance and hope make this a powerful piece. excellency in verse!

All at BirdBrains thank thee for thy comment (-:>)

Concerning 'torturous', we find that the Burnt Tree of Coo is able to perform this without bite, in her pleasant rural accent.

you've found an apt analogy, and surviving is no insignificant accomplishment. it's a good song, though the word "torturous"
must be sung with some bite.

the rhymes, of course, seem to come effortlessly.
