The first fig

My candle burns at both ends;
   It will not last the night;
 But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
    It gives a lovely light!

this poem says a great deal in five lines (title included, the title itself says a great deal), a great deal more than meets the eye.

ken d williams The PoetBay support member heart!
Though the candle is lit at both ends
Though the light it gives is splendid
And sooner the candle is melted
The candle - had been stood in a cup
The grece remaining - with a new wick
That wick when lit - enables a light fore awhile yet
