beauty in honesty

even a beautiful world has scars
(though hidden they may be)
sometimes in obvious places
such as in plain view upon the face,
but other times you must
search deeper than the surface

sometimes truth goes
deeper than the surface
when it is covered in lies
(as it often is)

the world that we all know
is a lie,
there is no beauty in suffering

the lie that we all live
from day to day
is that there is inherent meaning
in life

this lie is ugly,
it is the root of our suffering,
the cause of our not seeing
the true underlying meaning
of our own existence:
the individual meaning
which is the essence of beauty

and by hiding the truth
is the lie created

but once it is unmasked,
the world can be seen
for what it truly is
with all of its scars intact
and all of its ugliness

but there is honesty in the ugliness
and by that honesty is the ugliness
made beautiful

(honesty and acceptance are the seeds of beauty)

we are the creators of the lie,
the forgers of the mask
which we force upon reality unawares,
subconsciously fashioning
a worldview that comforts us
but kills our spirit of inquiry
(sometimes the answer is that their are no answers)

so yes, there is ugliness,
even in a beautiful world -
but we must see the ugliness
(and accept it)
in order to truly experience
the real beauty of the world
behind every glorious sunset and sunrise
and within our own capacity to feel,
embracing the unknown that lies ahead of us,
embracing truth and thus, beauty
