Today is the World Environment Day... Let's stop to think a while...

Who is Responsible?

When chlorofluorocarbons
Are released into the air,
And Ozone layer is depleting,
When too many ultraviolet rays
Enter the atmosphere
And skin cancer plagues
Every citizen over-age...

Who is responsible?

When too much carbon dioxide
Is released into the firmament,
And heat gets trapped within the atmosphere,
Causing the green-house-effect,
When global warming melts
the polar ice cap,
Shrinking the planet Earth...

Who is answerable?

When thoughtless deforestation
Of green vegetation
Erodes the top soil,
And landslides take place,
Avalanches swallow the Earth,
Burying fields and human beings
Causing a grave concern...

Whose work is it?

When mighty dams are built
On scanty-water river beds,
Submerging the fields
And homes of tribals,
For whom alluvial soil is their bread,
Rendering them homeless, landless and hungry,
Reducing them to destitution and distress...

Who gives them land and home?

Who is the destroyer in the name of progress?

When industrial waste,
is dumped into rivers,
Polluting the environment,
Killing the fish, tilting the ecosystem.
When oil spills over into the Ocean pristine
Causing a mighty Oil Slick,
Killing thousands of seals and birds...

Who is the pollutant?

When 'Nuclear-waste' is dumped into the sea,
Near a country of the 'Third-World',
Causing Cancer and Leukemia,
Where children are born limbless, brainless
With congenital abnormalities...
When Sulpher replaces oxygen of the atmosphere
And Methyl Isocyanides choke the lungs...

Who poisons the mankind?

When unjust wars are fought,
When poor countries are 'carpet bombed'.
When mighty Nations are razed to ground.
Mothers and children are rendered homeless
When vast deserts sands turn red.
When a 'Little Boy' is dropped
Maiming thousands in a second...

Who is destroyer of mankind?

Who is responsible?
Who is answerable?

We, the human kind!

Today is the World Environment Day:
Let's assume responsibility today,
Let us be answerable today.
It is a wake up call for us!
Let's stop the self-destructive act!
Let's join hands to conserve our environment.
Let's join hands to conserve ourselves...

Let's start at home:
Plant a tree today,
Sow a seed of hope,
Irrigate it with waters of love and peace,
Nurture it with understanding of souls...

Let's start today!
Let's start now!

Let us start living!
Now!

I totally concurr....the earth is only one...and from it we derive our existance.Surely, we ought to be responsible and start making ammends......a rather thoughtful diversion to remind us of the important things that we so easily forget!!!!

A beautiful dress for a serious thought. Amazing.
I agree with you - I see the same things everyday, all the time, and its not fair that the people producing the wastes are healthy, while those whose only fault is living where the waste is dumped, suffer.
A perfect 5.
Hugs,
Arti.
