Sixteenth Elegy

Jen, I'm reading my poems for you
aloud to the walls of my two-room apartment
at not quite three in the morning.

Tears push against my eyes, but don't break through.

My heart is sore reading these lines but that doesn't matter 'cause all that matters is how you're feeling... makes me wish I could take away the pain. She sounds like a really special someone to you, and I'm so sorry she had to go too early. Loss is the biggest travesty of this life we're given, I think. Your words drive it home for me.
